Umberto I Hospital-Polyclinic Unit – Building 6 – First Medical Clinic - Rome

As part of the award of design works for the design projects necessary for the award of works for bringing up to standard the underground tunnels of 7 buildings that are part of the Umberto I Hospital Polyclinic Unit in Rome, Opengineering Srl was in charge of drawing up the Project to Upgrade the Fire Prevention System to Technical Standards for the issue of Fire Prevention Certification of Building 6, which houses the first Medical Clinic.
Building 6 covers 5 floors and a total surface area of about 13,000 sq m and it is comprised of:

  • 5 floors above ground
  • 1 floor for the roof
  • 1 basement

The building is linked to the other adjacent buildings in the hospital complex through “underground tunnels”.  The raised floor is what connects to building 5, while both 5 and 7 are connected via the first floor.
The building is destined exclusively to hospital and service activities, since it houses the following departments:

  • Science of Ageing
  • Clinical Science and applied Medical Treatment
  • Musculoskeletal System (Orthopaedic Observation).

It also uses the rooms for the following:

  • surgeries
  • laboratories
  • wards
  • classrooms
  • administrative bodies
  • lecture hall with over 100 seats
  • library
  • operating theatre

Opengineering’s design activities covered brining the building up to standard for the purposes of fire prevention and specifically for special and electrical installations.
